Steve Parr of the UK Gravity Enduro and Carlos Perez of the Enduro1 race series are pleased to announce the launch of the UK Enduro Scholarship.
A busy selection day at the Forest of Dean
Sponsorship of two cutting edge Enduro bikes from Marin with full suspension support from TFTuned, ongoing rider skills training from Firecrest MTB from Ian Warby and Fit4 Physio will be looking after all their exercise, conditioning and treatment needs to help keep the riders injury free and racing.
The two lucky scholars were chosen by Steve and Carlos from competitors who have entered their series over the last year along with Chris Roberts Mini Enduro races and all three will be providing
free entries to their respective races next year along with the Innerleithen, MTB Races. After a testing selection day held at the Forest Of Dean back in November hosted by Dean Forest Cycles all four candidates who were invited to the selection day were given a thorough fitness assessment by Fit4 Physio and then scrutinized on various technical tracks to asses their riding ability.
It was a tough call but two riders eventually won through so we are pleased to announce that the 2014 UK Enduro Scholarship riders are 17yr old Joe Harrison from Holywell in North Wales and 17yr old Leigh Johnson from Neath in South Wales. They will have their own website and social media outlets which they will have to keep up to date on their progress throughout their year scholarship both in racing and training so if you want to see what it takes and enjoy the ups and downs of being a young competitive Enduro racer then head over to the website and follow their journey.
“We have put our money where our mouths are” Steve explains. “We will be putting our own time and effort into the pot to provide a sponsorship package that will really give a boost to young emerging British riders who want to carve a race career both here and abroad in Enduro.” Carlos goes on to explain. “We are both passionate about Enduro and want to put something positive back into the sport and nothing would please us more than to have one of our scholarship riders go on and compete in the World Enduro Series and stand on the podium!”
